Announcing Celestia Integration for Zytron Kit, a Decentralized Games Sovereign Rollup Infrastructure
Modular, Hyper-scalable & Secure Infra for Massive Multiplayer Games powered by Zytron Kit with Celestia Underneath.
TL;DR
Zypher's flagship infrastructure solution, Zytron Kit (onepager), is an optimized Sovereign Rollup Layer 3 Stack built with Celestia's Rollkit, offering unmatched performance for massive multiplayer gameplays.
Designed with modularity in mind, Zytron offers an array of plug-and-play modules from data compatibility to sovereign rollup to support high performant games with enhanced composability, scalability, and secret primitives.
Zytron Kit employs Celestia as the default Data Availability (DA) option for supported game chains, further strengthening Celestia’s position as a foundational element for Autonomous Worlds.
Zytron is set to be open-sourced soon as a public good. An alpha net featuring 0 gas fees, 0.2s block time with a suite of pre-compiled zk services is coming in 2 weeks.
The Need for Better Infrastructure in Web3 Games
Compared to centralized solutions, blockchain does not excel in providing superior user experiences. In some domains, such as DeFi, users might tolerate compromises where the benefits of security or yield justify trade-offs in user experience.
However, gaming, one of the most performance-intensive use cases, does not afford such compromises. A game's market fit often relies on its inherent capabilities to deliver superior graphics and engaging storylines. Current infrastructures, primarily based on Ethereum Virtual Machines (EVMs), are not inherently designed to support high-responsive games with effective client-chain synchronization.
This gap is particularly noticeable when comparing blockchain gaming to traditional gaming powered by centralized servers. For developers, the task of creating fully on-chain games or strategy games faces significant limitations. For example, current Layer 2 infrastructures exhibit block times exceeding 1 second, a far cry from the sub-200 ms tick time needed for a seamless gaming experience. Additionally, high and unpredictable gas fees, due to the shared computational resources with other dApps, further worsen these issues.
Zytron Kit & its Modular Design
Introducing Zytron (onepager), a sovereign rollup-based solution. It empowers game developers to tailor sovereign L3 game chains, customized in gas fees, block times, runtime configurations, ZK-as-a-service support, regulatory compliance, and more. All to suit the specific needs of a game.
From the outset, Zytron was envisioned as a departure from conventional monolithic models, aiming to achieve superior performance to fulfill the demanding requirements of gaming experiences. It features several plug-and-play modules:
Sovereign Rollup: Inspired by Rollkit. The cornerstone module that ensures game playability by providing the highest availability (CAP) in the distributed system. This module enables rapid upgrades and automatic deployment across the entire system.
Server Sharding: Implements clustered nodes for efficient world map or service distribution and includes retrieval algorithms for seamless information synchronization following node transitions.
Data Compatibility: Offers abstracted, developer-friendly relational databases designed to streamline the processing of game data.
Customized Network: Enhances the P2P layer (e.g., through a specialized UDP protocol) and facilitates message transmission within small groups to achieve tick times at the level of 100 milliseconds.
Zypher Engines: Provides pre-compiled services from Zypher Game Engines, including multiple ZKP verifiers, pairing, elliptic curve cryptography, efficient hash functions, and ready-to-use circuits.
Celestia as Modular DA Layer
Celestia stands at the forefront as a pioneering modular consensus and data network, crafted to scale securely alongside a growing user base. It is recognized as one of the initial and most favored modular Data Availability (DA) solutions specifically designed for developers within the Ethereum ecosystem. By employing Data Availability Sampling (DAS), Celestia ensures substantial data throughput for numerous rollups, all while maintaining uncompromised end-user security.
The integration of Celestia as a default DA provider underneath Zytron-powered layer 3 game chains represents a significant leap forward in the progression of Zytron towards operational readiness for large scale on-chain games. The Sovereign Rollup module is one of the most key components in Zytron’s architecture. By supporting the separation of data and assets (settlement), data and states are saved in Celestia (for DA) while assets are bridged to L1/L2 through a separate ZK-Rollup. This integration provides developers with an alternative option for data availability beyond the settlement layer it was built on while ensuring DA for the independent verification of the Layer 3 chain, all at a reduced cost.
Coming Next: Autonomous Worlds as Public Goods
We're excited to announce the first Zytron-based Layer 3 Public alpha net (featuring 0 gas fee, 0.2s block time and pre-compiled zk game engines) set for release in just two weeks.
Additionally, a community dev team is working on a fully on-chain Minecraft game on the alphanet, aimed at redefining the gaming experience. This demo will register all in-game assets as ERC-721 tokens and ensure that every player action is logged, stored, and verifiable on-chain using zk proofs. This approach not only reinforces digital ownership but also enriches the gaming experience by providing a fully on-chain, selectively transparent, and fair environment for players. While still in its formative stages and representing a new chapter in the Autonomous Worlds, this initiative is set to offer an experimental space that encourages the community to create content beyond the limits of predefined rules, independent of developer-supplied clients.
Prior to the mainnet release and full production readiness, the Zypher DAO will play a crucial role in open-sourcing and maintaining the Zytron Kit. This effort aims to democratize the toolkit, positioning it as a public asset for developers eager to craft high-performance, crypto-native games.
Over the past year, we have been exploring the potential of utilizing zero-knowledge proofs to elevate on-chain gaming experience, with the aim of achieving seamless, secure, and immersive gameplay. The integration of Celestia represents a strategic step towards leveraging advanced data availability solutions.
